Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu
As you finish your arrival formalities, we will meet at the airport for your warm welcome. We’ll drive to the hotel in Kathmandu for check-in and rest. You will get refreshed for a welcome dinner scheduled in the evening. We will host the dinner where you will get to know the entire team behind Sabbatical Explore Nepal and about the expedition as well. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 2: Trek Preparation and Kathmandu Sightseeing
We will have one extra day in Kathmandu for trek preparation and sightseeing. Our team will arrange things for the trek. At the same time, we’ll just explore Kathmandu’s major cultural heritage sites. We’ll visit Pashupatinath Temple, Bouddhanath Stupa, Swaymbhunath Stupa, Kathmandu Durbar Square, and some more if time allows. This walk around the UNESCO world heritage sites will be notable ones. Day 3: Fly to Lukla and Trek to Paiya(2,800m) | 40mins & 5-6hrs
In the morning, we’ll catch a scenic flight to Lukla. Enjoying the Himalayas all along, we’ll land in Lukla Airport to start the trek to Paiya village. Our walk will begin through a forested trail. Slowly, we’ll move ahead to cross several suspension bridges to reach Surke Village for a short stop. Then we continue the trek, an ascending trek this time, to cross Chutok La Pass. We’ll enjoy mountain vistas from this pass before finally descending to Paiya(Chutok) Village. Overnight in Paiya.
Day 4: Trek to Panggom(2,846m) | 5-6hrs
From Paiya, we’ll descend quickly to reach a river with a small bridge. The path ahead is a little bit slippery until we reach and cross Kari La Pass. We’ll pass through bamboo and rhododendron trees on a rough trail en route. We’ll enter Dudhkoshi Valley today and enjoy its sereness. In this way, we’ll finally reach Panggom, a terraced field hamlet. Overnight in Panggom.
Day 5: Trek to Ningsow(2,863m) | 4-5hrs
After breakfast, we’ll leave the farm fields of Panggom. The path will soon lead us to another pass, Panggom La Pass. There will be more mountain vistas to watch. Following, we’ll ascend on a steady path to head towards the north. We’ll reach Peseng Kharka Khola to cross it and reach Peeng Kharka Danda in a while. And on our final stretch for the day, we’ll cross Ningsow Khola to reach Ningsow. Overnight in NIngsow.
Day 6: Trek to Chhatra Khola(2,800m) | 7-8hrs
Today is one of the longest trekking days of Mera Peak Climbing. We’ll leave Ningsow behind by descending from the village to start the day. Then we climb for a while to reach Ramailo Danda, a point from where we will see Mera Peak. Continuing the trek, we’ll come to enter Makalu Barun National Park. After the entrance, we’ll trek on a trail named Pasang Lhamu Trai. The route finishes in Chhatra Khola, where we end up for the day.
Day 7: Trek to Kothe(3,691m) | 6-7hrs
Now we will trek toward Kothe. This is from where we’ll be on the main trail of Mera Peak Climbing. The trek will continue by the sides of Majang Khola; we’ll enjoy the sound of the river. Next, our trail confluences with a trail that follows Hinku Khola. Soon later, we’ll reach Tashing Ongma, a place with tea shops. We’ll stop for a tea break. And, following that, we’ll reach Kothe after crossing Sanu Khola via a bridge. Overnight in Kothe.
Day 8: Trek to Thaknak(4,358m) | 3-4hrs
We woke up to the view of Mera Peak in Kothe. Then, we’ll trek along a ridge enjoying the sights of the peak. After a trek of 2 hours, we’ll reach Gondishung, a temporary herders’ village. We’ll eat our lunch at the place before we pass Lungsumgba Gompa, an ancient gompa. And some more hours of trek will take us to Thaknak. Overnight in Thaknak.
Day 9: Trek to Khare(5,045m) | 2-3hrs
After a lovely sleep in Thaknak, we’ll move towards Thaknak. We’ll walk on the Dig Glacier’s lateral moraine first. Throughout the walk, we’ll enjoy breathtaking angles of Charpate Himal. Later, the trail reaches the moraines of other glaciers and ultimately comes Khare. It is a short trekking day to get Khare quiet before the evening. So we’ll explore the Khare village and places around. Overnight in Khare.
Day 10: Acclimatization day in Khare and Climbing Practice
We’ll not leave Khare yet. We’ll spend an acclimatization day to get accustomed to the region’s high elevation. Also, we’ll use the day to do prior training for the climb ahead. Our climbing team will train you to use rope, ice axes, boots, crampons, and other climbing gear. It will be an important day of the Mera Peak Climbing Itinerary. Overnight in Khare.
Day 11: Climb from Khare to Mera High Camp(5,780m) | 6-7hrs
The big day is here, starting climbing towards Mera High Camp. We’ll start the day’s climb from a boulder scattered region to the Mera Peak Base Camp. We’ll move ahead Mera La Pass via a rough and snowy trail to reach Mera High Camp through the base camp. We have to be careful around here as there are a few crevasses. We’ll overcome all the sections and safely reach the high camp. Our team will settle a camp for all of us. Overnight in Mera High Camp.
Day 12: Summit Day and Back to Khare
The biggest is here, the day when we’ll finally step on the summit of the tallest trekking peak in Nepal. We’ll wake up at 2 in the morning to approach Mera Peak. The weather will be extreme, but we’ll continue onto an unusual ridge through the glacier. Up to this point, there is no such technical section demanding. Yet, we’ll reach the height where the air is thin. From a bit of up, we’ll view the summit point already. We may use fixed roped on our climbing lead’s call to step on the summit. And at last, we’ll be on the pinpoint of Mera Peak to watch breathtaking mountain vistas of various popular peaks. We’ll enjoy the view to the fullest. Later, we’ll descend back to Khare via the same route. Overnight in Khare.
Day 13: Trek to Kothe |4-5hrs
Now it is the start of the Kathmandu-coming trek. We’ll retrace the same trail to reach Kothe after a trek of 4-5hrs. To do that, we’ll cross Thangnak on the way along with a dotted forest. The hike back to Kothe is easy; the trail is mostly descending. We’ll reach Kothe comfortably. Overnight in Kothe.
Day 14: Trek to Thuli Kharka| 5-6hrs
After breakfast, we’ll leave Thuli Kharka. Today, we’ll retrace the same Inku Khola-sided trail. Several chortens will also come along. We’ll pass via the forested trail to direct us to the western part of Hinku Valley. After the trek of 5-6 hours, we’ll reach Thuli Kharka. We’ll spend a lovely evening in the place enjoying the mountains. Overnight in Thuli Kharka.
Day 15: Trek to Lukla via Zatrwa La Pass| 6-7hrs
Here we begin our trek to Lukla, the last trekking day of the Mera Peak Climbing itinerary. We will leave Thuli Kharka to cross Zatra La Pass(4,600m). We’ll enjoy glimpses of Lukla and adjoining peaks like Numbur Himal, Kusum Khangru, Kongde Peak, and more from the pass. Off the pass, we’ll trek via Chutan to reach Lukla in the evening. Overnight in Lukla.
Day 16: Fly back to Kathmandu | 40min
We leave Lukla and the Everest Region for Kathmandu on a morning flight. We will enjoy beautiful views through our windows. The 40 minutes flight will land in Kathmandu to conclude the journey. We transfer to the hotel in Kathmandu. The rest will be free time to explore the city and shop. Overnight in Kathmandu.
